AUSTRALIA: Visitors to Sovereign Hill’s annual Winter Wonderlights are being treated to a new immersive lighting experience, with Resolution X unveiling Reflections of Winter as part of the popular Victorian winter event running throughout the June and July school holidays.

Set around the dam at the heart of the museum precinct, the eight-minute installation transforms the still waters into a dynamic canvas of light, reflection and music. Accompanied by a custom-composed soundtrack, the experience uses lighting effects projected across the water, surrounding trees and landscape to create an atmospheric journey that has become one of the event’s newest attractions.

To realise the installation, Resolution X deployed more than 300 fully outdoor-rated lighting fixtures, including the ShowPRO Raytheon FC Strobe, ShowPRO Neptune Superbeam and EK Lights LT6, which serves as the production’s primary fixture. The entire system is operated via MA Lighting International’s grandMA3, while Resolution X’s proprietary XConnect software provides full remote monitoring, enabling the team to oversee performance in real time and ensure reliable operation throughout the event.

The installation has been designed to withstand Ballarat’s challenging winter conditions, where equipment is exposed to near-freezing temperatures and prolonged moisture over several weeks.

“We have fixtures sitting just inches from the water in a pretty harsh Ballarat winter,” said Jamie Russell, General Manager. “Lesser fixtures simply wouldn’t survive these conditions. Every product specified for this installation has been selected with longevity and reliability in mind, and the equipment from EK Lights continues to deliver exactly what we need.”

According to Resolution X, delivering an outdoor installation of this scale required significant preparation ahead of deployment, including investment in weatherproof power distribution, IP65 cabling and resilient control infrastructure to ensure consistent performance regardless of weather conditions.

Reflections of Winter is the company’s 12th outdoor winter installation of the season, further highlighting Resolution X’s expertise in delivering large-scale outdoor lighting experiences. The production joins the broader Winter Wonderlights programme, which also features projection mapping, artificial snowfall along Main Street and a range of immersive attractions throughout Sovereign Hill. The event runs until 19 July.
