AUT NIHILO, Amplified by L-Acoustics Knowledge Hub Latest Live by Elton - September 18, 2025 Rightway Audio Consultants Designs Massive 300-Speaker Deployment comprising K Series, L Series and X Series Products to Connect Sun Yanzi’s Intimate Musical Storytelling with 60,000 Fans at Beijing’s National Stadium When Stefanie Sun aka Sun Yanzi sings, Asia listens. And when she chose Beijing’s iconic National Stadium—the ‘Bird’s Nest’—for the centrepiece of her AUT NIHILO 25th anniversary concert, the stakes could not have been higher. A voice that has sold 30 million albums and defined an era of Mandarin pop now needed to resonate—intimately and powerfully—with 60,000 fans inside one of the world’s most challenging acoustic environments. Enter Rightway Audio Consultants (RAC) and L-Acoustics, whose collaboration transformed the vast Olympic venue into a finely tuned vessel of emotional storytelling. Deployed by MRT (Shanghai Rentian), the massive system featured nearly 300 units from L-Acoustics’ acclaimed K-series, L-series, and X-Series loudspeakers in a sophisticated and meticulously orchestrated multi-zone design that delivered scale, subtlety and impact in equal measure. “Achieving powerful sound pressure to keep 60,000 concertgoers fully engaged while preserving the delicacy of Sun Yanzi’s vocals was our primary objective,” says Vincent Zhou, Technical Director at RAC. “With K2’s Panflex precision and the efficiency of the new L Series, we were able to faithfully reproduce both intimacy and impact—something rarely achieved in a venue of this size.” Sun Yanzi’s main PA featured two hangs comprising 12 L-Acoustics K1 over four K2 speakers per side with eight KS28 behind each array The venue’s challenging geometry necessitated innovative solutions to provide optimal coverage while accommodating rotating stage screens and thrust stage elements that could potentially obstruct sightlines and sound paths. The system design, however, rose up to the challenge, as the deployment stood proud as nothing short of monumental. K1 and K2 hangs flanked by KS28 subwoofer arrays for main coverage, Kara II for front-fill, and an extensive web of delay-fill arrays featuring K2, Kara II, and the newly introduced L2 and L2D. The main PA system featured two hangs comprising 12 units of the K1 over 4 units of the K2 speakers per side, with 8 units of the KS28 subwoofers behind each array for extended low-frequency response. Front-fill utilized two sets of 3 units of the Kara II boxes at the stage front, supported by six sets of 4 units of the KS28 subwoofers in cardioid configuration on either side. The concert at Beijing’s National Stadium featured front-fill of two sets of three L-Acoustics Kara II boxes at the stage front, supported by six sets of four KS28 subwoofers on either side The K2 main PA, utilizing Panflex technology, proved essential for precise coverage of main audience areas while minimizing stage interference. Combined with precise delay adjustments across the various system zones, the design delivered natural sound reproduction that perfectly conveyed Sun Yanzi’s vocal subtleties and emotional nuances to every listener. Side-fill coverage employed two hangs of 8 units of the K2 boxes flown on either side of the stage. The extensive delay-fill systems included 36 units of the K2, 10 units of the L2, and 6 units of the L2D speakers strategically positioned throughout the arena, plus 10 units of the Kara II speakers and 2 units of the K2 enclosures at key ground positions. The deployment of L Series speakers proved particularly valuable for delay-fill applications. “The L2 speakers delivered remarkable efficiency,” notes Zhao Haozhi, Vice Manager of Product Department at RAC. “With a single L Series unit achieving up to 155dB SPL—equivalent to four K2 speakers—while being 46% smaller and 40% lighter, our team could deploy components throughout the arena without interfering with audience sightlines. This combination of power and compact size ensured uniform sound quality across the entire venue.” Side-fill consisted of two hangs of eight L-Acoustics K2 boxes flown on either side of the stage, while L-Acoustics L2 performed delay duties For surgical precision, RAC deployed 6 units of the X15 HiQ speakers to overcome acoustic shadows caused by rotating LED screens and thrust stage architecture. Two units of the X15 HiQ speakers at the front of the thrust stage provided crucial high-frequency energy, while four additional Two X15 HiQ speakers at the front of the thrust stage provided crucial high-frequency energy, while four additional X15 HiQ speakers compensated for sound coverage blocked by the venue’s rotating display screens in bleacher seating sections. The results were immediate and electrifying. From the stadium-wide singalong during “Yintai” to the hushed intimacy of Sun’s ballads, every note travelled with clarity, depth, and emotional resonance. “The L-Acoustics system reproduced not only Sun’s music and vocals but also the emotions embedded within, creating a live concert experience that allowed all 60,000 attendees to connect completely with her musical world.” Zhou reflects. With this landmark production, Sun Yanzi’s legacy as Asia’s beloved storyteller and L-Acoustics’ reputation as the world’s premier live sound innovator converged, proving once again that when artistry and technology meet, the result is nothing less than transcendent.
