Clear-Com Powers Communications Infrastructure for Large-scale Indonesian Production of Musikal Perahu Kertas

INDONESIA: Clear-Com played a central behind-the-scenes role in the staging of Musikal Perahu Kertas, a large-scale musical theatre production in Indonesia adapted from the bestselling novel by Dee Lestari, with the deployment of a communications system designed to manage the complex coordination demands of live theatrical performance.

Presented by Trinity Entertainment Network in collaboration with Indonesia Kaya and the Trinity Youth Symphony Orchestra (TRUST), the production featured extensive scene transitions, live orchestration, and simultaneous activity across multiple operational zones throughout the venue. To maintain timing precision, crew coordination, and production safety across the show’s run, the technical team relied on a Clear-Com communications ecosystem centred around the company’s Eclipse HX platform.

The system was supplied and operated by Indonesia-based rental partner 86inc, a specialist in professional communication solutions for live events, broadcast, and entertainment productions. Acting as technical lead for the project, 86inc handled the design, configuration, and on-site deployment of the intercom infrastructure based on the production’s demanding operational requirements.

Given the large number of departments operating simultaneously across the venue, 86inc selected Clear-Com’s Eclipse HX matrix system for its scalability, flexibility, and suitability for complex theatrical environments requiring multiple isolated communication channels.

The final deployment supported 10 dedicated communication channels, allowing production departments to communicate independently without crosstalk or operational interference during live performance conditions.

The installed configuration included an Eclipse HX MVX-A16 card for routing multiple outputs to the audio console, an E-IPA card with IP transceivers, more than 15 FreeSpeak II wireless beltpacks, and a V-Series panel positioned at front-of-house for centralised show control operations. Teams working across backstage areas, dressing rooms, front-of-house, and the orchestra pit remained connected through a unified matrix-based communications infrastructure providing continuous two-way communication throughout the venue.

According to the production team, the system delivered stable low-latency audio performance and reliable wireless coverage even within technically challenging backstage environments. The dedicated channel structure additionally helped departments maintain focus and respond rapidly during complex scene transitions and tightly synchronised cue sequences.

“Clear and reliable communication is key to the success of the show,” said Caron Shaine, Production Manager of Musikal Perahu Kertas.

From an operational perspective, the communications infrastructure also played a critical role in maintaining production safety during high-pressure stage transitions involving large scenic elements and rapid technical changes.

“This musical had many moving parts, including heavy equipment and frequent stage changes,” said Oscar Yulius Joseph, Technical and Operational Manager at 86inc. “We knew how critical it is to coordinate crews safely and make sure cues between actors, lighting, and music happened at the right time.”

Clear-Com additionally highlighted the growing technical capabilities of regional rental and production partners operating increasingly sophisticated live entertainment environments across Southeast Asia.

“There is always a unique satisfaction in supporting a capable rental partner with our products,” said Dalton Ong, Applications Engineer at Clear-Com. “It is a constant pleasure to watch 86inc and Dino Gonggalang’s team develop their offerings and reach new milestones.”
