AUSTRALIA: The Grand Ballroom at Sofitel Melbourne has enhanced its visual presentation capabilities with the installation of an Absen NT2.6 Pro V2 LED display system, providing the venue with a permanent, high-performance solution that significantly streamlines room reconfiguration while delivering the image quality expected of premium corporate and hospitality events. Supplied and integrated by National Audio Systems (NAS), the installation replaces a projection-based system that required extensive setup time and labour, offering greater operational efficiency alongside improved visual performance.

Designed as one of Melbourne’s premier event spaces, the Grand Ballroom can operate as a single venue or be divided into three independent event spaces using operable walls, accommodating everything from corporate conferences and product launches to gala dinners and weddings. The previous projection workflow required truss installation, flown projection screens and edge-blended projectors each time the room configuration changed, making transitions between room layouts both time-consuming and labour intensive.

To address these operational challenges, NAS deployed an 18-metre-wide Absen NT2.6 Pro V2 LED wall engineered to support rapid reconfiguration between a single large-format display and three independent six-metre-wide screens. The LED system is mounted on a custom German-engineered monorail track incorporating high-capacity trolleys, allowing the three display sections, with a combined weight of nearly 1.5 tonnes, to be repositioned smoothly and efficiently as event layouts change.

Signal management is handled through Novastar H Series processing combined with Pixel Hue P20 technology, enabling seamless switching between display configurations with up to 12 programmable presets. The installation utilises rental-grade Absen NT2.6 Pro V2 LED panels, selected for their lightweight construction, durability and image performance, making them well suited to an environment requiring regular movement and repeated reconfiguration without compromising display quality.

The new LED installation has substantially improved operational workflows within the venue, reducing what was previously a multi-hour setup involving several crew members to a reconfiguration process that can now be completed in less than an hour. Alongside the significant gains in efficiency, the system delivers enhanced brightness, colour accuracy and fine image detail across both single-room and multi-room operating modes, providing a visually consistent experience regardless of the ballroom configuration. The combination of improved operational flexibility and premium image quality has strengthened the Grand Ballroom’s ability to accommodate a diverse range of high-end events while further enhancing its position within Melbourne’s competitive premium events market.
