Colour, Weather and Scale Converge as Ayrton Fixtures take Wing Over the Rainbow at Japan’s LuckyFes ‘25

JAPAN: LuckyFes ’25 returned for its fourth edition over the holiday weekend of 9–11 August 2025, transforming Hitachinaka City’s Hitachi Seaside Park in Ibaraki into a sprawling, multi-sensory festival environment. Hosted by Ibaraki Broadcasting Corporation, LuckyFM, and BARKS, LuckyFes ’25 has positioned itself as Asia’s largest theme park-style festival, proudly framed as ‘A Celebration of Music, Food and Art’, with four stages embedded within the park’s natural landscape and a programme spanning pop, rock, hip-hop, anime songs and K-Pop. Over three days, more than 70 of Japan’s most prominent artists performed to tens of thousands of festivalgoers.

Lighting designer Anderson Hinago incorporated Ayrton’s IP65-rated fixtures into his designs for two of the festival’s stages, the flamboyant Wing Stage and the colourful Rainbow Stage. On the Rainbow Stage, the overhead rig featured 23 units of the Perseo Profile fixtures and 28 units of the Kyalami units, while the Wing Stage was illuminated using 13 units of the Rivale Profile fixtures, all selected to meet both creative and environmental demands.

“We chose these Ayrton luminaires because they were able to deliver vivid and seamless colour reproductions to match the variety of carefully designed scenes for each artist,” says Hinago. “Kyalami especially answered a unique selection criterion for space-saving, due to its compact form factor.”

Beyond visual performance, environmental resilience was a critical consideration. Ayrton’s Perseo, Rivale and Kyalami fixtures are all IP65 rated, a decisive factor given Japan’s unpredictable summer conditions. “The weather in Japan can quickly turn wild in mid-summer with torrential rains and wicked winds,” Hinago explains. “My first consideration therefore was that all my luminaires should meet IP65 standards to guarantee uninterrupted performances of the outdoor show for the enjoyment of the huge audiences attending. We are happy to report that the Ayrton fixtures withstood all the weather could throw at them!”

Reflecting on the overall result, Hinago highlights the importance of versatility across a musically diverse programme. “With this selection of Ayrton profile and beam fixtures I was able to create well-matched lighting effects that met every criteria demanded by the wide variety of musical content delivered by the programme of top artists. In doing so we managed to genuinely honour and value the diverse imaginative scenarios that are the nature of music festivals.”

The Ayrton fixtures for LuckyFes ’25 were supplied by PRG K.K. – the brand’s exclusive distribution partner in Japan – with whom Hinago maintains a long-standing professional relationship. “My connections with PRG across various countries are fundamental and long-lasting, so I trust them implicitly and was highly motivated to employ their Ayrton fixtures on the frontline of big shows like LuckyFes,” he concludes.
