L-Acoustics Fits Big Sound into Bali’s Low Ceiling

INDONESIA: Secret Garden Spring, a lifestyle complex that opened on Bali’s Sunset Road in March 2026, has equipped its Ambassador Lounge with an L-Acoustics system designed to handle both corporate events and live performance within a challenging five-metre ceiling.

The three-storey complex brings together beauty retail and perfume-making workshops, a spa, fine dining, a coffee house, cigar lounge and transit lounge, with its owners expecting more than 600,000 visitors annually. Developed by Secret Garden Group, the Balinese company behind the Secret Garden beauty and fragrance brand and Secret Garden Village, the 35,000-square-metre edu-tourism destination in the Bedugul highlands, the new venue’s top floor houses the Ambassador Lounge.

Available for public hire, the lounge seats between 350 and 400 guests depending on configuration and can be divided into three meeting rooms using folding partitions. As a single space, however, it was designed to accommodate everything from corporate meetings and conferences to live performances. That called for one sound system capable of delivering speech and presentation clarity while retaining the headroom required for a band.

The 27m-long by 19m-wide room presented several installation constraints. Its ceiling is only five metres high, structural beams cross the space and LED screens along the presentation wall had to remain unobstructed. With limited volume above the audience for loudspeaker deployment, the system design required careful consideration.

Secret Garden Spring subsequently ran a competitive tender involving three audio contractors. Jakarta-based L-Acoustics Partner PT Gracia Auvindo invited the client to its Jakarta office for a system demonstration, but also used L-Acoustics Soundvision to recreate the Ambassador Lounge from the venue’s architectural drawings, including its structural beams.

The model allowed the team to demonstrate loudspeaker coverage, rigging mechanics within the five-metre ceiling and expected electrical consumption. “It’s a very powerful use of the software,” says Hendra Halim, Application Director at PT Gracia Auvindo. “We can simulate the room and show the client exactly how the installation will look, with the power consumption and everything else explained within it.”

“Being able to show them exactly how it would look and perform on screen, before a single box had arrived on site, was what gave them the confidence to choose us,” Halim adds. PT Gracia Auvindo subsequently won the contract.

The resulting system centres on L-Acoustics A10, with each side carrying two A10 Focus and one A10 Wide. Four KS21i are flown centrally, while four X6i provide front-fill, with three LA4X amplified controllers powering the system. The A10 enclosures are positioned above the LED screens, keeping them unobstructed for both presentations and live shows while placing the arrays as high as the five-metre structure permits.

Since opening, the Ambassador Lounge has used the same system across its corporate and live-event requirements. “The system itself is easy to work with, and the owners were thrilled from the very first event,” Halim concludes. “They told us they didn’t expect a room this size to sound this good, and we consider that a job really well done.”
