Pacific Lighting Unveils Strand Electric Patt 123M Fresnel Replica Ennovations Knowledge Hub Latest by Elton - April 15, 2026April 14, 2026 Pacific Lighting (HK) Ltd has introduced the Strand Electric Patt 123M Fresnel lantern — a meticulously crafted 1/3 scale replica of the original Patt 123 designed by Morgan McLeod. Conceived by Director Hugh Chinnick as a companion to the Patt 23M profile launched in 2021, the new release extends the lineage of one of theatre lighting’s most recognisable fixture pairings into a fully functional miniature format. Far from a static collectible, the Patt 123M is a working model equipped with a 3W 3000K LED source and offered with multiple mounting options, including a telescopic stand, swivel arm wall bracket, or ceiling/floor plate. Constructed in cast zinc, the fixture delivers both a refined finish and effective thermal properties, with a natural patina developing over time to enhance its authenticity. Power is supplied via USB, allowing connection to a phone charger or computer, while presentation is equally considered—the unit arrives in reproduction Strand packaging, complete with wood shavings and a British Rail Certificate of Compliance for Conveyance stamped on top. The level of detailing reflects the legacy of the full-size fixture, which for many marked their first encounter with professional stage lighting. The Patt 123M incorporates rotating barn doors, a chrome reflector, internal lighting baffle, and a glass Fresnel lens featuring the same number of rings as the original. Even the lens clips have been faithfully recreated, while focusing is achieved by moving the ‘lamp’ carrier, with the catch mechanism engineered as a precise, functional replica. “We didn’t think it possible to recreate the catch in such detail but Scott Ingham and Susan Lo and the team at Ingham Design once again worked their magic preparing meticulous drawings which enabled us to achieve that incredible level of detail,” said Chinnick. Early responses from lighting designers underline the craftsmanship behind the piece. “Every detail of the original has been lovingly reproduced” says Bruce Williams. “Both the superb Patt 23M and 123M remind me of days long gone but with such fond memories” comments Paul Pyant. “Richard (Pilbrow) would have taken GREAT delight in the Patt 123M, he was one of the first designers to use the original so effectively” states Bob Bryan. “It’s absolutely perfect!” exclaims Roger Hennigan, Technical Manager, Southbank Centre. Beyond its appeal as a decorative or desk-mounted piece, the Patt 123M is designed to operate alongside the Patt 23M profile as a functional system for model theatres and puppet stages, with closely matched light output and colour temperature reinforcing their status as a complementary pair—even in miniature form. “I never intended to do anything more than fulfil my dream of recreating a scale replica of the Patt 23, but increasing peer pressure from so many industry colleagues (you know who you are!) proclaiming that I couldn’t make a Patt 23M without its partner, the Patt 123M, made me reconsider my intentions,” Chinnick explained. “It made sense to have a Fresnel companion to the beloved profile, which have always been regarded as a perfect pairing. The feasibility study looked positive and my 11 years at Glyndebourne instilled me with its ethos of ‘if you’re going to spend all that money, for God’s sake do the thing properly…’. So here it is, the perfect combination of nostalgic authenticity to complete the set. However, now I can categorically say I am DONE!” Share on Facebook Share Share on TwitterTweet Share on Pinterest Share Share on LinkedIn Share Share on Digg Share
