INDIA: For more than 150 years, The Coimbatore Club has stood as one of India’s most distinguished legacy institutions, continuously evolving its facilities to meet modern expectations while preserving the refined character that has defined its reputation for generations. As part of an initiative to enhance the member experience within its lounge environment, the club partnered with system integrator Vertex Inc and NEXO (Yamaha Group) to implement a sound reinforcement solution capable of delivering exceptional audio quality while remaining visually unobtrusive.

The brief was straightforward yet technically demanding: create a sound environment that offers crystal-clear, soothing audio throughout the lounge, enhancing conversations and ambience without becoming intrusive. Achieving this required careful consideration of acoustics, aesthetics and budget, while also competing against several internationally recognised audio brands evaluated during the selection process.

The lounge’s architectural design introduced additional challenges, particularly the presence of reflective glass surfaces that can negatively influence low-frequency behaviour and overall intelligibility. The project team therefore sought a solution capable of delivering consistent coverage, high speech intelligibility and controlled bass performance while integrating seamlessly into the club’s interior design.

The final system design centred around NEXO’s compact installation portfolio. Strategically flown NEXO ID24 compact loudspeakers were deployed to provide even coverage throughout the lounge, ensuring consistent tonal balance and minimising dead spots across the listening area. Low-frequency reinforcement was delivered by NEXO IDS110 subwoofers configured in a gradient array arrangement, a design approach selected specifically to manage bass dispersion and reduce unwanted reflections from rear glass surfaces. Powering and controlling the system is the NEXO nanoNXAMP4, providing efficient amplification and consistent system performance.

The combination of the flown ID24 loudspeakers and gradient subwoofer configuration enabled the project team to achieve precise directivity control, balanced coverage and enhanced intelligibility across the venue. By carefully managing low-frequency energy, the system delivers clean, controlled bass response while maintaining a natural overall sound profile suited to both background music and more dynamic programme material.

The result is a significant improvement in the lounge’s listening environment, with members benefitting from enhanced clarity, improved coverage consistency and a more refined sonic experience. From subtle ambient audio to full-range music playback, the system has been designed to complement the atmosphere of the space rather than dominate it.
