Tracking Finesse Knowledge Hub Latest Live by Elton - August 12, 2025 Zactrack Elevates Live Lighting Precision in Singapore Productions Advanced tracking technology is reshaping how lighting designers merge precision with creativity, as demonstrated in two recent Singapore productions—Umbilical at the School of the Arts (SOTA) and the SIFA Pavilion at Bedok Town Square in Singapore. For both shows, Total Solution Marketing supplied and deployed zactrack systems to enable real-time tracking across stages with varying terrain heights. Umbilical, exploring themes of identity, belonging, and change in the context of Singapore’s 1965 separation from Malaysia, used movement, music, projections, and AI to link past and present. Focusing specifically on presence and transition, Lighting designer Andy Lim and lighting operator Gerald Teh sought to create lighting that adapted seamlessly to performer movement. To avoid traditional followspots, a zactrack mini system was deployed by Tracking Specialist Louis Bryan from Total Solution Marketing. While there were initial concerns over the lack of 3D tracking, the system’s terrain function delivered accurate performance on and off stage. Andy commented, “zactrack is about unlocking new creative opportunities. It allowed light and space to respond fluidly to the performers in real time, making the environment feel truly alive and connected.” The setup included one Ayrton Rivale Profile and eight Robe Esprit fixtures. zactrack mini powers Umbilical at the School of the Arts in Singapore Meanwhile at the SIFA Pavilion, lighting designer Adrian Tan opted for zactrack SMART. Working with lighting operator Yvonne Mo, he used the terrain function to define stage zones at different elevations — vital for a venue where all anchors had to be installed at similar heights across a 22m x 15m area. The Ayrton Rivale’s Tracking 360 feature complemented zactrack by enabling full 360-degree performer tracking, enhancing accuracy and ensuring smooth transitions in line with the movements of four performers. “What I loved most about zactrack was its versatility and intuitive programming. The same moving lights could function as followspots in one cue, then seamlessly transition back to standard fixtures moments later. The programming was remarkably straightforward—no complicated steps, just a simple toggle on the console,” said Adrian. Lighting designer Adrian Tan chose zactrack SMART for tracking at SIFA Pavilion From large outdoor spaces such as Bedok Town Square to intimate venues like SOTA, zactrack continues to give designers greater creative freedom, allowing followspots to be placed in previously inaccessible locations. “This could be a game-changer for the future,” Adrian noted.
