Coconut Sound unleashes the power of AiRAY + ViRAY combo for 10,000-strong Chiang Mai celebration

As the streets of Chiang Mai erupted in jubilant water-soaked revelry this April during Thailand’s iconic Songkran festival, the energy outside the city’s bustling MAYA shopping centre was amplified by a world-class CODA Audio system deployed by Bangkok-based rental specialists Coconut Sound. Catering to a crowd of more than 10,000 people, the open-air event featured high-octane sets from J.Jetrin, Retrospect, and The Toys, backed by a sonic experience that delivered precision, punch, and pristine clarity.

With a legacy of supporting large-scale events across Thailand, Coconut Sound — a long-time client of Modern Solutions Plus, CODA Audio’s official distributor in Thailand — opted for a potent mix of AiRAY and ViRAY line array modules to handle the varied performances throughout the day. The main PA system consisted of 8 units of the AiRAY complemented with 4 units of the ViRAY per side; which was further reinforced by side hangs (outriggers) of 6 units of the AiRAY complemented by 4 units of the ViRAY on each wing. For the bottom end, a serious rumble was guaranteed by 16 units of the SCP sensor-controlled subwoofers, while HOPS8 point source cabinets provided front fill reinforcement.

System designer Wichak Chanmuang of Coconut Sound ensured that every beat and note reached the farthest corners of the massive audience zone — even with a competing large DJ setup just a short distance away. “With the city bustling to the sound of many events, including a large DJ set-up in close proximity to MAYA, the system needed to deliver sufficient power and coverage to ensure that the crowd’s enjoyment of the artists was not compromised,” he said. “The system achieved this with ease, leading to high praise from all the front of house engineers and the client — the sound was excellent!”
