VIETNAM: Elite of Saigon has brought a new dimension to luxury river cruising in Vietnam, combining fine dining, sightseeing and live artistic performances across a three-deck yacht designed to accommodate up to 500 guests. At the heart of the experience is a d&b audiotechnik sound system designed to deliver consistent, high-quality audio across the vessel’s varied indoor and outdoor environments while remaining discreetly integrated into its architecture.

Named Elite, meaning “Excellence,” the yacht moves beyond the conventional dining cruise format. Its first deck hosts buffet dining, the second offers a set-menu dining experience, while the sun deck provides space for sightseeing, photo opportunities and live artistic performances. With the vessel positioned firmly within the luxury hospitality segment, its audio infrastructure needed to deliver both acoustic performance and visual refinement.

“The selection criteria were, first and foremost, uncompromising sound quality. Secondly, the system had to meet high aesthetic standards while being able to withstand weather conditions effectively,” comments Nguyễn Quốc An, owner, Elite of Saigon.

The selection process involved extensive research across major professional audio manufacturers in Vietnam and internationally, including companies from Italy, Spain, France and Germany. Feedback from musicians and producers was also considered, particularly regarding performance under demanding conditions. d&b audiotechnik ultimately emerged as the preferred solution, supported by its track record on major concerts and strong endorsements from Vietnam’s music industry. The choice also aligned with Elite of Saigon’s longer-term ambition to host mini concerts and A-list performers onboard.

Installing professional audio on a luxury yacht introduced challenges that extended beyond those associated with conventional fixed installations. Equipment had to comply with maritime requirements covering fire resistance, thermal insulation and safety, while the design brief called for compact loudspeakers that could be installed outdoors at unconventional angles without compromising acoustic output or visual integration.

The vessel’s combination of indoor dining spaces, a main deck, mezzanine, VIP lounge and open-air sun deck also demanded different approaches to coverage and system design. Indoors, hard surfaces and enclosed spaces presented the risk of excessive reverberation, making clarity and controlled coverage critical.

For these areas, the system incorporated the d&b 44S loudspeaker series. Designed for fixed installation, the 44S combines wide horizontal dispersion with relatively narrow vertical coverage, allowing the loudspeakers to be positioned centrally along ceilings and follow circulation corridors throughout the indoor spaces. Their bidirectional dispersion also allowed the units to be mounted flush to the ceiling, maintaining a clean architectural appearance while providing even coverage without directing excessive sound towards seated guests.

The outdoor areas required a different solution, with audio needing to travel over greater distances while maintaining clarity and consistency across the listening zones. Water-resistant systems from the d&b xS Series were therefore deployed, providing solutions engineered for permanent outdoor installation without requiring additional protective shielding. Their weather resistance and acoustic performance made them suited to the sun deck, supporting ambient music, announcements and live performances.

After two months of operation, the system had demonstrated its ability to maintain consistent performance throughout the yacht, with clear and balanced audio across dining areas, the lounge and the sun deck. The discreet installation also complemented the vessel’s interior and exterior design, keeping the technology visually subordinate to the guest experience.

“Over the course of two months of operation, I have frequently been present at performances on board. Both our guests and I feel that this is a truly outstanding sound system. It fully meets our expectations, as well as those of our customers when they experience our services. From an investor’s perspective, I believe our decision to invest in this system was absolutely the right one,” comments Nguyễn Quốc An.

For Elite of Saigon, the audio system is therefore more than an infrastructure investment. It forms part of the vessel’s overall hospitality proposition, supporting the atmosphere of its dining spaces, the impact of its live performances and the broader sensory experience of cruising along the river. By combining d&b audiotechnik’s professional audio technology with a design-conscious installation strategy, the project has given Elite of Saigon an audio platform capable of supporting its ambitions across luxury dining, entertainment and cultural programming.
