ei Productions Goes All-In on Martin MAC One

AUSTRALIA: Reinforcing a long-standing relationship with Martin Professional lighting that stretches back decades; New South Wales based ei Productions has strengthened its lighting inventory with a significant purchase of Martin MAC One fixtures, facilitated by Show Technology Australia & New Zealand – the brand’s official partners in the region. Opting to scale the investment decisively, ei Productions added 64 Martin MAC Ones to its inventory, a decision that quickly proved its value as demand ramped up.

From early fixtures such as Roboscan 805 and RoboColour One through to the latest generation, the company’s familiarity with the brand played a central role in the decision to invest, alongside growing visibility of the MAC One on both local and international technical riders.

The move followed first-hand exposure to the fixture at a Show Technology launch event, with momentum building as demand from touring productions increased. Neale Mace, Managing Director at ei Productions, explains, “Having seen them at a Show Technology launch event, they’ve been on our ‘to-buy’ radar for a while. Once they started appearing on local and international tech riders, it seemed the right time to open the chequebook.”

Positioned as a compact yet highly capable solution, the Martin MAC One combines beam, wash and eye-candy functionality in a single ultra-lightweight fixture. At its core is a Fresnel lens system that allows it to deliver a narrow, high-intensity beam capable of producing strong aerial effects typically associated with much larger luminaires. The same optical system also enables a soft wash with a 4–27° zoom range, supporting smooth transitions and dynamic visual looks, while an integrated backlight system featuring 24 RGB-effect LEDs embedded within the lens adds a further layer of visual impact.

Reflecting on the fixture’s performance, Mace notes, “If ever there was a lighting product that punched above its weight (literally), it’s the MAC One. It’s a tiny ultra-lightweight LED wash that has more output and features than it seems possible from such a fixture.”

In practical use, the flexibility of the MAC One has allowed it to scale across a wide range of production environments. “Martin has done a great job on the design and feature set of this light,” Mace adds. “Having used them a bit here at ei Productions, they seem at home on anything from a small, intimate floor package to holding their own on a huge outdoor stage. The small size and light weight make them easy to rig in any situation.”

That versatility was recently on display during Ocean Alley’s large-scale show at The Domain in Sydney, where Lighting Designer Jake ‘Dutchy’ Bylsma deployed the fixtures across an arched truss, as well as mid-stage and rear trusses, to recreate a classic ACL-style look within a contemporary rig.

With global demand for compact, rider-friendly fixtures continuing to rise, the Martin MAC One has already become a heavily utilised asset within ei Productions’ rental stock. According to Mace, the fixtures are now in high demand worldwide for lighting tech risers, with the company’s inventory booked across multiple upcoming shows, underlining the growing role of lightweight, multifunction luminaires in modern touring and festival productions.
