Christie M 4K25 RGB Dazzles at “Flashback: Gyerim”, South Korea’s First Immersive Historical Storytelling Exhibition

SOUTH KOREA: Christie has announced that its M 4K25 RGB pure laser projectors are at the heart of “Flashback: Gyerim”, a newly opened immersive media art installation in Gyeongju. Operated by Flashbackground Co., Ltd. and jointly developed with Dexter Studios and the Cultural Heritage Technology Research Institute (TRIC), the installation marks a major milestone for South Korea’s rapidly evolving immersive media sector, merging cultural heritage narratives with advanced projection technology on an ambitious scale. Dexter Studios, known across Asia for its VFX work on director Bong Joon-ho’s Academy Award-winning film “Parasite”, Netflix’s “Victory”, and the series “Parasite: The Grey”, spearheaded both immersive content development and technology integration.

Located within the Bomun Tourist Complex, “Flashback: Gyerim” spans approximately 5,600 square metres (60,278 square feet), positioning it as the nation’s first immersive historical storytelling media art museum. The walk-through experience unfolds across 13 themed zones inspired by Silla mythology and folklore, reimagining over a thousand years of history using projection mapping, VFX, spatial sound, and digital heritage technologies. Opened in conjunction with the APEC 2025 Summit in November, the exhibition aims to transport visitors into a narrative blending ancient culture and modern digital artistry.

A key highlight is Zone 8, Sky Pillar, where 12 units of the Christie M 4K25 RGB pure laser projectors are overhead-mounted to cast expansive visuals across the surrounding walls and a striking tree-like centrepiece. Seasonal transitions, dynamic lighting, and pulsing drumbeats create an atmospheric ritual space designed to evoke mythic and cosmic dimensions of the Silla period. An official from Flashbackground Co., Ltd. said, “Our goal was to create an exhibition that doesn’t just tell history, but lets visitors walk through it. The Christie M 4K25 RGB projectors provided the brightness, color performance, and reliability we needed to bring the Sky Pillar to life. The result is a hyper-immersive experience where light, sound, and myth converge into a powerful narrative form.”

The official emphasised that the M 4K25 RGB was chosen for its rugged build, reliability, and visual performance capable of maintaining clarity and vibrancy across demanding immersive environments. Its compact footprint, quiet operation, and premium 3DLP RGB pure laser illumination enabled Dexter Studios and TRIC to execute the creative brief without compromise, achieving seamless motion reproduction, deep contrast, and rich colour expression at scale.

Han Kim, Vice President of Sales, Asia-Pacific, Christie, commented: “‘Flashback: Gyerim’ demonstrates the extraordinary impact that projection technology can have when combined with visionary storytelling. We’re honored that our M 4K25 RGB projectors were chosen for this landmark project, and we applaud Dexter Studios and TRIC for redefining what immersive media art can be.”

The Christie M 4K25 RGB delivers 25,300 lumens in a compact chassis and offers 4K UHD resolution with TruLife+ electronics and electronic colour convergence (ECC). With energy efficiency of 14.1 lumens per watt — up to 31% more efficient than comparable systems — the projector offers robust, low-maintenance performance with RGB pure laser illumination designed for long-term installation environments, making it well-suited for immersive cultural and entertainment applications.
