INDOENSIA: The 21st edition of the Jakarta International Java Jazz Festival placed a substantial audio demand on its production team, with the multi-day event bringing artists and audiences together at NICE (Nusantara International Convention Exhibition) in Jakarta. To meet the requirements of a festival environment spanning multiple performance needs, organisers turned to  PT. Inti Megah Swara (IMS Indonesia), who decided to deploy a JBL Professional – centric system that combined VTX line array technology, BRX systems, PRX loudspeakers and Crown Audio amplification.

With jazz spanning everything from intimate performances to full-scale amplified sets, consistency is as important as sheer output. The system therefore had to deliver enough headroom to handle the festival’s larger moments while maintaining the clarity and control expected from a genre where the detail of an instrument or vocal can be as important as its volume.

20 units of JBL VTX A12 formed the main sound system, giving the festival stage a combination of high output and controlled coverage that was well suited to the scale of the event. Each A12 provides 90-degree horizontal coverage from 250 Hz through 18 kHz, while its vertical dispersion is shaped by the number and configuration of cabinets in the array. This allowed the system to be configured to project sound consistently across the audience area rather than simply pushing high levels from the stage. With a maximum peak output of 146 dB, the A12s also provided ample headroom, helping the system maintain clarity and definition as performance levels increased.

That capability was reinforced by the 18 units of JBL VTX G28 subwoofers. By giving the low frequencies their own substantial dedicated system, the A12 arrays could concentrate on delivering the mid and high-frequency detail, while the G28s supplied the low-end weight and impact. In practical terms, the combination meant the system could deliver the scale and energy required for a major festival without relying on the main arrays to handle the entire frequency spectrum at high levels.

The result was a system architecture that played directly to the strengths of the VTX A12 system i.e. controlled coverage, considerable output and enough headroom to reproduce the dynamics of live jazz and contemporary performances cleanly across a large audience area.

The larger VTX system was complemented by 4 units of JBL BRX308-LA  line array elements paired with 2 units of JBL BRX325 subwoofers, adding a more compact line array solution to the festival’s audio infrastructure; while further flexibility came from 1 unit of JBL PRX918XLF powered subwoofer, 9 units of JBL PRX915 and 4 units of JBL PRX912 loudspeakers. Rather than asking one loudspeaker platform to handle every requirement across the festival, the deployment could therefore draw on different JBL families according to the scale and role of each application.

Behind the loudspeakers, 5 units of Crown Audio VRack 4x3500HD and 3 units of Crown Audio VRack 12000HD provided the amplification infrastructure. Combining high-power amplification with onboard DSP and network connectivity for touring applications; Crown’s I-Tech HD architecture provided high power density alongside processing and monitoring capabilities, while separately addressing LF, MF and HF sections. The result was a tightly matched loudspeaker and amplification ecosystem in which the system processing, amplification and loudspeaker performance could be treated as a single engineered platform rather than independent components.
