Resolution X Delivers an XIP-Rated Lighting Statement at St Kilda Festival 2026

AUSTRALIA: When Australia’s largest community festival takes over one of the country’s most exposed and unpredictable coastal locations, lighting reliability is not a luxury—it is a non-negotiable. For the 2026 edition of the St Kilda Festival, that challenge was addressed head-on through a fully XIP-rated lighting deployment mainly spotlighting fixtures from Martin Professional, which was delivered by Resolution X, purpose-built to maintain performance consistency across two high-density festival days, regardless of weather conditions along the St Kilda foreshore.

First launched in 1980, St Kilda Festival has grown into an iconic annual summer event celebrating community spirit, Australian talent and the cultural identity of Melbourne’s bayside precinct. Following the introduction of its two-day format in 2023—an edition that attracted more than 375,000 attendees—the festival has continued to scale, with the 2025 outing reinforcing its position as a major destination event. The 2026 edition builds on that momentum, opening on Saturday, 14 February with First Peoples First, a day dedicated to First Peoples programming across the Main Stage on the foreshore and additional performances and family-friendly activities at O’Donnell Gardens. Sunday, 15 February marked Big Festival Sunday, transforming the precinct into a multi-stage showcase featuring over 100 acts alongside street performers, family entertainment, market and food stalls, carnival rides and community activations, drawing crowds that historically approach 350,000 across the day.

Against this backdrop of scale, density and exposure, the decision to deploy an entirely XIP-rated lighting system underscored a clear focus on operational certainty. Resolution X supplied a lighting rig centred around Martin MAC Viper XIP, Martin MAC Aura Raven XIP and Martin MAC Aura XIP fixtures, complemented by ROXX Cluster B2 FC Blinder units and GLP JDC Burst 1 strobes. Control across the site was handled via grandMA3 Full-Size and Compact XT consoles from MA Lighting, enabling stable and flexible operation throughout the programme while maintaining resilience in an outdoor, coastal environment. The project delivery was led by Project Manager Ikshvak “Ishi” Sobti, with Chris Kleins serving as Crew Chief, supported by Systems Technicians Celeste Chan and Andrew Thompson, and Lighting Designer Cam McKaige overseeing the creative execution.

For Resolution X, the St Kilda Festival 2026 deployment demonstrated how weather-resilient fixture choices, robust control infrastructure and disciplined crew execution come together to support large-format outdoor festivals without compromise—ensuring the focus remains firmly on performance, audience experience and continuity, even when the elements refuse to cooperate.
