Vari-Lite Shrinks the Neo X5 Powerhouse with the Neo X5 CRE

Vari-Lite has expanded its Neo X Series portfolio with the introduction of the Neo X5 CRE, a compact and more accessible lighting console designed for space-constrained environments including control rooms, studios and medium-sized performance spaces. Part of the Signify entertainment lighting brand family, the Neo X5 CRE delivers the same core functionality and software capabilities as the Neo X5 Console, but in a smaller, screenless format aimed at tighter workspaces and cost-conscious installations.

Addressing a clear operational need, the Neo X5 CRE retains the advanced feature set that has made the Neo X Series popular with designers and programmers, while significantly reducing the physical footprint. “Operators love the Neo X Series consoles, but the size isn’t always ideal for smaller areas like control rooms, where space is limited,” explains Martin Palmer, Vari-Lite Marketing and Product Management Leader at Signify. “With the X5 CRE, we’re delivering the same powerful features in a compact, screen-free design that’s perfect for these environments.”

Powered by Vari-Lite’s mature Neo software platform, the Neo X5 CRE is designed to help lighting designers achieve their creative goals more quickly. The platform includes an advanced effects engine supporting pixel mapping, media playback, timelines and more, while the console itself offers five multifunctional motorised playbacks with backlit keys and the ability to output over 50,000 channels straight out of the box. Despite its reduced size, the hardware layout remains intuitive, featuring a soft touch control screen and support for up to two external touchscreen monitors, allowing operators to tailor their workspace to specific workflows and preferences.

Palmer adds, “The Vari-Lite Neo X5 CRE gives designers an adaptable interface that makes it easier to get things done quickly. With a small format and a screen-free design, the CRE can be used wherever you need it, whether that’s in the control room, around the theatre or around the world. And thanks to the Neo platform’s robust training and support system, designers can get up to speed quickly, with onboard training videos, global tech support, online forums and groups and an interactive manual.”

The Vari-Lite Neo X5 CRE will make its public debut at ISE 2026, where visitors can see the new console in action at the Vari-Lite and Color Kinetics demo room in Barcelona from February 3–6, 2026.
