Brompton Technology Powers StudioCube’s New Virtual Production Stage in South Korea

SOUTH KOREA: Brompton Technology has confirmed the deployment of its Tessera LED processing platform at Studio V, the newly unveiled virtual production stage housed within StudioCube Daejeon — South Korea’s largest public broadcasting content production facility. The installation strengthens StudioCube’s role as a national hub for high-end content creation, expanding its capability to support large-scale virtual production workflows.

Established in 2017 by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism (MCST) and the Korea Creative Content Agency (KOCCA), StudioCube was created to accelerate South Korea’s broadcasting and video production industry. Its facilities have supported several globally recognised projects, including Squid Game, Kingdom, and Sweet Home. The launch of Studio V now extends StudioCube’s technical portfolio with a purpose-built virtual production environment designed to enable flexible, cost-efficient, photorealistic filmmaking.

The new stage was formally introduced during a Grand Opening event on December 3, hosted by KOCCA and attended by senior representatives from the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism alongside the Deputy Mayor of Daejeon, underlining significant institutional backing for next-generation creative infrastructure.

“Studio V represents a major step forward in Korea’s mission to advance global content creation,” says Acting President of KOCCA, HyunSuk Yoo. “By integrating Brompton’s industry-leading LED processing with our expanded production infrastructure, we are enabling creators to work at the highest international standard. This facility will play an essential role in elevating the scale and impact of K-content worldwide.”

Studio V incorporates high-resolution LG LED products optimised for virtual production with pixel pitches ranging from 2.6mm to 3.9mm. The LED stage comprises a main wall measuring 60m wide by 8m high — including a 36.5m curved section and 23.5m flat section — supported by two movable 5m x 5m LED screens and a 15m x 21m LED ceiling. In total, the environment delivers 94.7 million pixels across multiple integrated surfaces.

At the core of the installation are 19 units of the Brompton Tessera SX40 4K LED processors paired with 38 units of the Tessera XD 10G data distribution units. This system drives the entire LED volume and ensures precise visual performance and synchronisation across the stage using Brompton’s advanced image processing tools.

The Tessera feature set plays a pivotal role in supporting cinematography-driven virtual production workflows. ‘ShutterSync’ aligns LED refresh rates with camera shutter speeds to eliminate scan lines and ensure artefact-free imaging, while ‘Extended Bit Depth’ maintains smooth gradation and tonal accuracy for HDR pipelines. ‘Dark Magic’ preserves low-light detail essential for dramatic lighting environments, and ‘PureTone’ maintains exact colour accuracy throughout the grayscale range for seamless post-production and colour grading workflows. The system also integrates with OptiTrack and Stage Precision camera tracking platforms, enabling real-time spatial synchronisation between digital environments and physical camera movement.

“Working with KOCCA and the systems integration team on Studio V at StudioCube has been an exceptional experience,” adds Sebastian Kanabar, Head of Sales (APAC) at Brompton Technology. “This installation demonstrates how our Tessera platform can scale to meet the most demanding virtual production requirements while maintaining the image quality and reliability that cinematographers expect. We’re proud to support KOCCA’s vision of establishing Korea as the global leader in next-generation content production, and we look forward to seeing the remarkable productions that will emerge from this world-class facility.”
