SINGAPORE: Singapore’s Drama Centre Theatre has taken another decisive step in its long-term shift to LED lighting, investing in 18 units of Robert Juliat Dalis 860 cyclorama fixtures and two RJ Oz followspots supplied by exclusive regional distributor Total Solution Marketing (TSM). The 615-seat venue, operated by Arts House Group (AHG), is known for its advanced lighting, rigging and audio systems, and serves as a cultural hub within AHG’s wider portfolio of major arts and heritage institutions—from The Arts House and Victoria Theatre & Victoria Concert Hall to Aliwal Arts Centre, Stamford Arts Centre and Goodman Arts Centre. AHG also oversees flagship national festivals including the Singapore International Festival of Arts and the Singapore Writers Festival.

Working closely with TSM, the Drama Centre Theatre team carried out extensive evaluations to identify fixtures that met the technical scale of the venue while remaining aligned with budget parameters. The Dalis 860 emerged as the ideal solution. “We chose Dalis 860 fixtures for many reasons: their compact size, lightweight design, high lumen output, excellent colour rendering index, and superior coverage from short distances,” says Fazil, Head of Technical Production at Arts House Group. “We have not been disappointed! Dalis 860 excels with its bright output, impressive range of colour options, and optical reflectors that ensure ample and even coverage. We have 8 Dalis units positioned at the top of our cyclorama cloth and 8 at the bottom, rigged at a distance of 125cm, from where they provide excellent coverage across the whole of our 8m x 12m cyclorama. We’ve had very positive feedback from our technicians who report that the Dalis are very reliable and easy to operate. They are also extremely impressed with their compact size and consistent performance during our productions.”

The venue’s upgrade also included two RJ Oz 600W LED followspots installed on the front-of-house lighting bridge, positioned 24 metres from the stage. The fixtures have already impressed both house operators and visiting lighting designers. As Fazil explains, “Like all Robert Juliat followspots, they offer impressive specifications, including a powerful lightsource, smooth variable dimming, precise iris and shutter control, and a compact, ergonomic design that enhances operator comfort and manoeuvrability. Visiting lighting designers, as well as the venue’s followspot operators, have praised its precision, smooth operation, and versatile features that adapt seamlessly to various production styles.”
