GIS AG Introduces Independent Brake Testing Ennovations Knowledge Hub Latest by Elton - October 16, 2026October 14, 2026 Electric chain hoists used in the entertainment industry are typically equipped with main and auxiliary brakes, depending on the applicable standard. While both brakes operate virtually in synchronisation during normal use, servicing and maintenance require each brake to be tested independently. GIS AG’s new BTB brake testing system is designed to simplify this process without requiring mechanical intervention. The system uses an electrical interface fitted inside the chain hoist and connected by cable to a portable test box. This enables technicians to test the primary and auxiliary brakes separately, providing a dedicated means of checking each brake’s function during maintenance. GIS offers the BTB in two versions. The standard model is intended for use with an external control system, while the BTB-1CH incorporates an integrated one-channel controller, allowing the hoist’s lifting movement to be operated directly from the test box. The required electrical interface can be specified as an option on new units or installed in existing LP(L) series chain hoists using a retrofit kit, extending the system’s availability to equipment already in service.
