Stagesafe, the event safety consultancy set up 10 years ago by Chris Hannam, has introduced a new Event Safety Vehicle, based on a 4x4 Jeep Cherokee, that besides serving as a patrol vehicle for event safety staff during festivals and events, is also designed for use as a rapid response vehicle in emergency situations.Says Hannam: “The specially equipped vehicle can be called in instantly by radio to a hazardous situation that can then be evacuated, cleared, contained and made as safe as possible until the full support of the emergency services arrive. Following the emergency, safety staff can then deal with the aftermath and conduct an investigation designed to prevent further or similar incidents.”The new vehicle is, he says, designed to protect organisers, staff, audience and performers, adding that it can also be used to transport emergency crews, equipment or casualties. The high visibility vehicle is provided with first aid and fire safety trained Hannam as its driver, and is equipped with First Aid Kit, towing package, emergency and rescue tools, personal protective equipment and clothing, warning beacon, siren, load hailer, flood lights, hazard marker tape and fire extinguishers. The 4 x 4 Jeep Cherokee has a 4 litre automatic engine for maximum power when it’s really needed in tough situations and includes a full towing package.
The vehicle crew can be responsible for monitoring and searching out potential hazards on an outdoor event site and can: • Supply information to the Security Manager, Site Manager the Emergency Services and any other relevant staff or agency of any problems or potential hazards on site. • Provide escorts and other safety services as required. • Assist in the response to short-term crowd management problems as required. • Transport urgently required items around the site as required. • Remove vehicles from un-authorised areas. • Keeping arenas free of camping • Monitoring and management of campfires in the performance areas with, where appropriate, corrective action taken via security. • Monitor any potential pinch points for crowd movement and provide initial response to resolve situations. • Keep fire lanes and emergency routes clear of any obstructions. • Check the passes of vehicles around site for their validity and use. • Help prevent un-authorised vehicle movement. • Assist welfare and medical cases e.g. by providing transport etc. • Marshall on site traffic as required. The vehicle and crew must not be considered as an alternative to ambulance, fist aid and fire fighting crew from the emergency services. http://www.mlmedia.eu/
