SGM RIBALTA FOR THE NEW SCANDINAVIUM ARENA

In the original design, the semi-circular façade above the atrium was to have been spectacular, completely covered in glass. The initial idea never became a reality: the lines of the building remained unchanged, but the covering was in orange-painted tin panels, which for a long time were a typical feature of the arena.

In 2006, the city fathers decide to take radical action on this aspect, to exploit it as the architects had originally intended. Being unable to replace the old material with glass (a project that was unadvisable due to costs and the complexity of the work involved), it was decide to highlight the arch with spectacular LED lighting effects.
The previous paint was replaced by a light metal grey able to reflect light (particularly if coloured) excellently and, along the base, at a height of six metres from the ground, 104 SGM Ribalta fixtures were installed, pointing upwards. Precisely these units were chosen because: their powerful light emission (90 Luxeon LEDs) covers the entire surface of the arch, up to a height of approximately 19 metres; the horizontal aperture of their light enabled to reduce the number of fixtures that would otherwise have been required; LED reduce energy consumption, ensure extremely easy maintenance and provide very deep, intense colours;
Protection to IP 65 prevents the risk of damage due to snow and dirt on the lenses.

The new installation now enables the exterior façade to be transformed with continually varied colours, combinations and sequences. The area's appearance can thus be changed according to the seasons, festivities or events being hosted. The protruding cornice at the top of the facade blocks the fixtures' light and creates a suggestive coloured halo round the building. http://www.sgm.it/ http://www.regia2048.com/
