L-ACOUSTICS’ rental network agent in Guadeloupe, J2C Antilles, has supplied a KUDO/KIVA system for a concert by Lionel Richie at the Baie-Mahault Stadium in Pointe-à-Pitre. The international star, who has sold more than 100 million records worldwide and is promoting his new album  Just Go, performed before an audience of 15,000.

The system comprised nine KUDO line source cabinets and four SB28 subwoofers per side, a centre cluster of six KIVA ultra compact line source cabinets, and outfills of three KIVAs per side.  The whole system was driven by nine LA8 amplified controllers housed in LA-RAK touring racks.

François Chaumeil, L-ACOUSTICS’ technical support for France, explains : “The total audience area was 60 m wide by 100 m deep, with the nine KUDO covering an area from 15m back to 100m. Using KUDO’s K-LOUVER system, the top three cabinets were open at an angle of 50°, and the other six at 110°. The 60 Hz preset was used for KUDO while the SB28s handled the lower end between 25 and 60 Hz.  The central cluster of KIVA covered the pit from 4 m back to 20 m, while the outfill KIVAs were opening the main side areas of the audience.

“The concert was a real success,” adds Franck Surena, L-ACOUSTICS’ head of sales for France. “Lionel Richie’s sound engineer Wayne Trevisani found the low end particularly spectacular, especially as there were only four SB28s per side.”

Founded in 1984 by Dr Christian Heil, pioneering French manufacturer L-ACOUSTICS revolutionised the world of professional loudspeakers in 1993 with the launch of the first Modern Line Source Array system, V-DOSC. The company has since introduced further ground-breaking speaker technology including Constant Curvature for the ARCS range, K-LOUVER Variable Directivity with KUDO and Laminar airflow vents on the SB28 subwoofer, as well as full integration of electronics with the new LA amplified controllers.
