La Cornisa Sports Club, in downtown Las Palmas on the island of Gran Canaria, was recently expanded and refurbished. This exclusive club covers an area of 8,500 square meters and it is the best the city has on offer both in terms of the quality of its facilities as well as the wide range of sports activities available to its members. The paging and music systems were equipped with D.A.S. Audio professional sound systems.

Specific D.A.S. sound systems were matched to the acoustic requirements of each of the building’s areas and rooms. A total of 50 eight inch, CL-8T loudspeakers from the Ceiling series were flush mounted in the public areas and hallways to form the messaging system as well as for providing background music. The CL-8T was also installed in the magnificent dining area of the club’s main restaurant.

The 270 square meter cardio room was equipped with eight Factor 8 systems. Their versatility   allows the systems to be used for background music as well as for instruction during cardiovascular, stretching or abdominal exercise classes. 16 model DS-8 units from the Dynamics range were installed in the fitness area which includes a weights room containing 45 of the latest in strength training machines. The DS-8 two-way systems comprise an eight inch loudspeaker and a compression driver and a two-inch titanium diaphragm. Their robust design is ideal  for facilities such as this, which are open all day, every day.

The swimming pool and spa section is one of the most popular areas of the sports complex. It includes a 25 meter swimming pool with six lanes and a wide range of activities take place here, such as therapeutic and fun aqua-aerobics, which are also available for both children and pregnant women.  Added to this is a hydrotherapy circuit containing 40 points for massaging different parts of the body, including bubble beds, hydro massage jets, cascades, a Jacuzzi and also a thermal spa. A total of eight ultra-modern model DS-108 systems from the D.A.S. Dynamics series were chosen for this area and are used for both aqua-aerobic classes and  relaxing music in the hydrotherapy section.

Club members who prefer outdoor activities can make use of the terrace which is especially designed for racket games and includes seven Spanish “padel” tennis courts, a traditional tennis court and 2 squash courts.  Sunbathing facilities are also available on the terrace and are widely appreciated thanks to the lovely weather in this area of the Atlantic, not to mention the spectacular views it has over the capital city. All of the club’s activities are organized into groups and are led by professional instructors who are specialized in fitness, aerobic, spinning, yoga and dance as well as monitoring children’s events.

The club also offers other leisure activities to its members and customers such as games for the little ones and a beauty centre for facial and body treatments. With so many different services available, it’s no wonder that La Cornisa Club has become the leading multi-use sports center in the Canary Islands.
