The 42nd annual Academy of Country Music (ACM) Awards returned to Las Vegas this past May 15th. Hosted by superstar Reba McEntire, several of country music’s biggest stars performed as part of the celebration—but the ACM Awards show wasn’t the only game in town. The festivities included both pre- and after- awards show parties, and for these gala events, Las Vegas-based H.A.S. Productions provided sound reinforcement using a collection of loudspeakers from the D.A.S. Audio Aero catalog. This year’s pre-and post-awards show parties took place in the Grand Ballroom of the MGM Grand Hotel. H.A.S. Productions, a well-known provider of live event services, including concert audio production, lighting, staging, and backline, was contracted to handle sound for the parties. Using twenty D.A.S. Audio Aero 48 line array elements—flown ten per side—in conjunction with six CA-215A subwoofers for onstage side and drum fills, the audience was treated to some of the finest country music Las Vegas has experienced in years. Larry Hall, CEO of H.A.S. Productions, who in addition to managing the company’s day-to-day operations continues to engineer at FOH, reflected on the parties. “This year’s parties were great fun,” said Hall, “and they featured scheduled and impromptu performances by an incredible group of country music artists. The pre-awards party—officially known as the New Artists Party for a Cause™— featured performances by Top New Male Vocalist nominees Rodney Atkins and Craig Morgan, Top New Female Vocalist nominees Miranda Lambert and Kellie Picker, plus Top New Duo or Vocalist Group The Wreckers. The post-awards party —known as the All Star Jam™— was a non-stop jam session that included an eclectic group of performers—among them Kenny Chesney, Terri Clark, plus Heartland. For both parties, our D.A.S. Aero rig did a spectacular job. We had engineers from numerous acts compliment us on the sound quality.”

The D.A.S. Audio Aero 48 is an externally powered, high efficiency line array module that integrates low, mid, and high frequency transducers into a single enclosure. With its trapezoidal shape and rear located splay angle adjusters that keep the front spacing between adjacent elements consistent, the Aero 48’s provide the ability to create a seamless front baffle for improved array performance. The CA-215A is a monoamplified subwoofer featuring two front-loaded D.A.S. Audio 15GN transducers in a bass-reflex configuration. When queried about his selection of the D.A.S. Audio equipment for these high profile events, Hall offered the following, “The ACM’s FOH engineer came to another show that our company was handling and heard our Aero rig. Quite simply, he fell in love with the sound quality and lobbied to get the D.A.S. equipment for the pre- and post-party events. Once he convinced the ACM that he needed the D.A.S. system, there was only one place in Las Vegas to get it – and that was us!”

As an enthusiastic D.A.S. Audio owner, Hall offered some additional thoughts on the D.A.S. equipment. “In addition to our D.A.S. rig, our company also owns systems from two other loudspeaker manufacturers. While the other systems carry the names of what some might consider higher profile companies, I remain firmly convinced that the Aero rig is the best sounding of our three systems. When it’s up in the air, people can’t tell what equipment it is, and we have a lot of folks ask about the system because it sounds really good. The bottom line is that the D.A.S. rig represents the ideal combination of performance and value.”

Hall reports that D.A.S. Audio played a significant role in helping him start his business. “I’m in my tenth year with D.A.S.,” said Hall. “They helped me start my company. They’ve always been very flexible with me on [financing] terms and have always been very supportive of my efforts. Both the D.A.S. folks in Spain as well as those here in the US have always gone out of their way to work with us. They’re a great company to be associated with. Both in sound quality and features, when you compare D.A.S. equipment against the competition, you can’t help but be impressed.” Before heading off to a meeting to finalize plans for an upcoming project, Hall offered this final thought, “We’ve been using our present D.A.S. system for three years now, and when many of the acts we’ve previously worked with come back through town, the D.A.S. rig frequently ends up on their rider. D.A.S. offers great sounding systems and first-rate support. It’s a business recipe that works really well for everybody.” http://www.dasaudio.com/
