D.A.S Audio Aero systems were once again protagonists at this year’s Fuertemúsica La Caja de Canarias Festival, which is normally held at the El Cotillo Nature Reserve, located in the region of La Oliva, on the island of Fuerteventura. Top artists including Aterciopelados, La Mala Rodríguez, Fundación Tony Manero, Concha Buika, Vanexxa and La Troba Kung Fu, performed at these magnificent concerts set on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. The event attracts more and more people every year and of all the festivals that are held each summer in the Canary Islands, this is one that definitely shouldn’t be missed.

With over 25 years of experience in the industry, Audioluz Canarias, S.L., based in the town of Tuineje in Fuerteventura and directed by Roberto Santana, Francisco Rodríguez and Eduardo Santana is the Canary Islands’ leading sound and lighting installation company. On this occasion they supplied a total of 24 Aero 38 line array systems, placing 12 on each side of the stage to form the P.A. system.  For low frequency reinforcement 12 Aero 218 subwoofer systems were installed at the foot of the stage. Front fill was handled by the Aero 28A systems and two ST-1800 units were installed for side fill. Signal amplification for the whole P.A. system was handled by amplifiers from QSC's Powerlight range and signal processing was managed by two D.A.S. model DSP-3VS digital signal processors. The sound technicians from the groups taking part controlled the whole of the front-of-house system using a Yamaha PM-5D digital board.

Monitors from the D.A.S. Compact and Stage Monitor series were chosen for the stage monitoring system, specifically two Compact-015 and two SM-15A monitors together with eight SML-12A units. Each group could position them wherever needed, providing both musicians and singers magnificent sound quality. The entire monitor system was self-powered making it much easier for each group to change its position on the stage and everything was controlled simply by way of a Yamaha SML7 digital board.

This spectacular stage set-up included a magnificent lighting installation which was also supplied by Audioluz Canarias who coordinate the design of their own lighting shows together with the performers. Using the latest in robotic lighting, they rely heavily on the help of computers which are essential for the future of lighting shows at live events. The lighting crew, led by Francisco Rodríguez, coordinated a very elaborate lighting show which was personalized for each one of the participating artists.

There are several things about this outstanding event that make it different from the others that are held all over Spain at the start of summer. “Fuertemúsica La Caja de Canarias” is not all about music but rather the appeal of the immense natural beauty of the island itself. The festival is organized by the social and cultural affairs section of the local savings bank Caja de Canarias and the town councils of Fuerteventura and La Oliva. It is produced by DD & Company Producciones S.L., headed by Dania Dévora, Event Manager for festivals like WOMAD in Spain (Canary Islands, Cáceres and Madrid) or Arrecife de las Músicas held in Arrecife in Lanzarote among many others.

Just as in previous years, a foreign group from a Spanish-speaking country was invited to perform at the festival and this year it was the turn of the Columbian group Los Aterciopelados who gave the event an international feel. The mixture of cultures and music were represented by local folklore groups such as Los Pecados de Adán, Dunas de Corralejo and Tababaire. Several DJ´s took part this year, giving a more modern touch to this festival which has always been focused on being a meeting point between different cultures and music as well as environmental and social values, making it a very important event for both Fuerteventura and the rest of the Canary Islands.
